What do you do for a living?

VP Private Mortgage Lender

What’s your favorite thing to do outside of the gym?

Spend time with family and friends.

What made you decide to try CrossFit?

Candace and Joel Granberg – I think that CrossFit becomes addicting and a lot of our conversations were geared around what they did at CrossFit that day.  I think you just want to be a part of it and the community.

How long have you been at Progression?

It will be two years this December.

What was your experience with fitness prior to CrossFit?

I was a member at another CrossFit gym for two years.  All I can say is there is a big difference between gyms.

What was your biggest fear when you started at Progression?

That I was not in good enough shape to join CrossFit.  I’m not going to be able to do these workouts.

Favorite cheat day meal?

Pizza.

What goal(s) are you currently chasing?

Strict muscle ups and walking on my hands.

What’s the hardest part about CrossFit?

Not being able to go a day because of schedule conflicts.  It has become such a part of my day.  If I had to compare it to something I would say it’s like morning coffee.  You just don’t want to start your day without it!

CFP Quote - Tonya

What’s one thing your fellow CFP’ers would be surprised to learn about you?

I have a 19 year old, a 17 year old, and a 2 year old.

What’s your favorite piece of advice you’ve gotten from a coach at Progression?

If you’re not feeling it, don’t push the weight.  Nothing is worth an injury.  For me that is good to reminder because even after 4 years I tend to push my shoulder when it’s probably not a good idea.

How has your outlook on health and fitness changed since starting CrossFit?

I am way more dedicated to my health and fitness.

What has been your fondest memory during your time at Progression?

I have so many… Friday Night Lights, Spartan Run, Turkey Throwdown.  We do a lot as a community here at CrossFit Progression.

Why do you think you’ve stuck with Progression?

I think it’s the variety in the workouts, the community, the coaches. I just truly look forward to it everyday.  I know if I just belonged to a gym I would never work out as hard as I do now at Progression.

What would be your one piece of advice for someone who’s just joining Progression?

Learn the correct form on all your lifts before putting weight on that bar.  Baby steps are okay and it’s not all going to come at once. The most important thing is that you showed up for class.  The rest will take care of itself all on it’s own.
